Dental Implants

Missing teeth can make simple tasks like eating or speaking much more difficult. Tooth loss can also lower your self-confidence.

Dr. Daniel Whiteman can provide superior restorations with dental implants, improving the health, function, and appearance of your smile.

Why should you consider dental implants at Whiteman Dental Associates in Brookline, MA?

3 Great Benefits of Dental Implants

Implant-supported restorations offer many advantages over conventional restorations. At the practice of Dr. Daniel M. Whiteman, patients can experience:

Greater Stability

Dental implants act as a secure anchor for dental restorations, whether you are replacing a single tooth with a crown or a full arch of teeth with dentures. You can feel confident knowing that your restoration will stay in place no matter what you eat.

Improved Appearance

If you have experienced tooth loss, you may feel self-conscious about your appearance when you smile or speak. Your natural-looking restoration will fill any gaps, and your implants will hold your prosthetic firmly in place.

Good Jawbone Health

Dental implants are the only treatment for tooth loss that prevents bone atrophy. This loss occurs when the roots are no longer present to stimulate the jawbone. This can result in shifting of surrounding teeth and an aged appearance.

What Are Dental Implants? Let's Take a Closer Look at the Implant Procedure...

Dental implants represent a significant milestone in the field of restorative dentistry. These small, titanium posts are implanted in the jawbone by a dentist or oral surgeon to serve as prosthetic tooth roots, providing the absolute best support for denturesbridges, and crowns.

His whole staff is very friendly and helpful! Great team and excellent experience!!!" Eva B.

Consultation

In order to qualify for dental implants, you must meet certain requirements for successful treatment. You will meet with Dr. Whiteman for an initial exam to see if implants are right for you. If not, we may suggest preliminary treatments such as bone grafting to improve your candidacy.

Placing Implant Posts

We will numb the area around the missing tooth or teeth with local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during surgery. If you are especially nervous about dental work, we offer additional forms of sedation to induce a state of optimal relaxation. The doctor makes small incisions in your gums and inserts the titanium implant posts into the jawbone.

Osseointegration

It will take about four to six months to heal from implant surgery. During this time, the titanium posts integrate with the bone in a process known as osseointegration.

Abutments and Impressions

When you have completely healed, we will bring you back into the office to secure abutments to your implant posts. Abutments act as the connector piece from the posts to your implant-supported crown, bridge, or denture. After your abutments are in place, we take digital impressions of your mouth to design your custom restoration.

Secure the Restoration

Our trusted dental lab will craft a precisely fitting crown, bridge, or denture that will look and feel like your natural teeth. Once complete, we attach the restoration to the abutments and check the fit. Any minor adjustments are made, and your dental implant treatment is complete.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

/

A dental implant can last a lifetime when you care for it properly. Your restorations, like bridges or crowns, will need to be replaced over time, but they can remain strong for many years. For a beautiful, functional smile, come see Dr. Whiteman at our welcoming Brookline office.

Will It Be Obvious That I Have Implants?

No, it won't be. Over the years, the materials dentists use have evolved to look more life-like, and can even reflect light just like your enamel. When paired with a restoration like a crown or dentures, your implants will blend in easily with your natural teeth.
