All-on-4® Dental Implants Provide Prompt, Dependable Denture Support
With All-on-4® dental implants, patients gain a strong and sturdy base for dentures that prevents slippage when eating or speaking. In most cases, these implants can support dentures immediately following placement, often without the need for a bone graft. Traditional dental implants are not ideal for every situation, which is why Dr. Daniel M. Whiteman offers alternatives such as All-on-4® implants at our Brookline, MA, dental office. Dr. Whiteman can help you find the best dental implant solution that fits your treatment goals and needs.
All-on-4® vs. Traditional Dental Implants
Traditional Dental Implants
Traditional dental implants are made of titanium and require uncompromised bone tissue in the jaw for support. Patients lacking ample bone tissue may need an additional surgery, such as a bone graft, to enhance their eligibility for implants. This can add several months to the treatment timeline. To support a full denture, six to eight implants are often necessary. Once the implants are in place, it can take up to six months for them to fully integrate with the jawbone in order to support a denture.
In most cases, these implants can support dentures immediately following placement, often without the need for a bone graft.
For the right patient, All-on-4® implants can be a suitable alternative to traditional dental implants. They are also made of titanium but require less bone tissue for support, making them an ideal choice for patients who have experienced a small degree of bone atrophy. No additional procedures are required, and in many cases, Dr. Whiteman can place and load All-on-4® implants in the same visit. All-on-4® implants can firmly support a full denture, providing the stability necessary to chew any foods you like, and to speak with clarity and confidence.
Are All-on-4® Implants Right for You?
All-on-4® dental implants are not right for everyone. Dr. Whiteman typically recommends All-on-4® implants for patients who have experienced some bone atrophy but who do not wish to receive a graft. These patients have typically been without some or all of their teeth for a year or more but are otherwise in good oral health, with no decay or gum disease.
The All-on-4® Treatment Process
After Dr. Whiteman determines whether All-on-4® implants are right for you, he will begin planning your treatment. This will involve taking digital impressions of your teeth and gums. Using advanced surgical guides for optimal placement, he will create four incisions in the gum tissue before inserting the implants.
Once the implants are firmly in place, Dr. Whiteman can attach a denture. If you have previously worn dentures, it may be possible to modify the existing dentures to attach to your implants. If modification is not an option, he will have a custom denture created ahead of time so he can immediately load it onto the implants after they are in place.
